Lessons

Colorado Cello offers private and group lessons for students of all ages and abilities: from beginners to advanced, 7 years old to 70+. Lessons are rooted in the study of classical music, but other styles ranging from pop to jazz can be integrated according to the interests of the student.

I offer all prospective students a free session. This allows us to meet, discuss your goals for lessons, and gives you a chance to evaluate my teaching style without the pressure to make an immediate commitment. These sessions generally last 30-45 minutes, depending on the age and expertise of the student.

Rates and Locations

Lessons are available Monday through Thursday, and are offered in Boulder and Lafayette. Please contact me for more information on specific openings.

Rates: I primarily offer lessons on a four-month semester basis. Students pay tuition for a set number of lessons during that period. You are expected to commit to a set day and time for the duration of the semester, and while I do my best to accommodate changes please note that I have very limited openings.

Spring 2023 (January-April) tuition for 15 lessons is as follows:

  • 30 minute lessons: $150/month, or $570 if paid in full by January 15, 2023.
  • 45 minute lessons: $190/month, or $722 if paid in full by January 15, 2023.
  • 60 minute lessons: $225/month, or $855 if paid in full by January 15, 2023.

Ala-carte lessons are available on a very limited basis prior to 3pm only, please contact me for more information.

Group lessons: 30 minutes – $25 per student, 45 minutes – $35 per student, 60 minutes – $45 per student. Group lessons are available for 2-5 students who are at a similar level of playing ability.

I typically recommend that beginners take 30 minute lessons. Intermediate students and adult beginners often do well with 45 minute lessons. Motivated intermediate players and advanced students should consider 60 minute lessons

Lesson Topics

All lessons are structured for the individual student- I do not follow a set, regimented program. Everyone has their own unique strengths, needs, and interests; therefore I believe that more than one approach is needed for teaching more than one student! I focus on teaching students how to use their bodies in the most efficient and natural way possible, so that your playing is beautiful and effortless. Other possible topics include:

  • better sound and tone production
  • vibrato and shifting
  • sight reading
  • improvising
  • advanced bowing techniques
